Episode 3. Mongolia Naadam Festival

Naadam Festival is the biggest national holiday in Mongolia and is celebrated across the country. The festival has a history of over a thousand years and is often called the Mongolian Olympics.  The major event is celebrated in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, but there are smaller provincial celebrations across the country. The Naadam festival has three main sporting events: wrestling, archery and horse riding. All of these events are taken very seriously.  The event is held from Jul 11 - 15 each year - unfortunately this year the event is postponed due to the pandemic.  If we find out when it will be held, we will share the information here.

Episode 2. Mexico Cantoya Fest

Cantoya Fest is an annual festival held in July in the town of Pátzcuaro in Michoacán, Mexico.  It's an amazing parade of flying paper lanterns and bigger paper balloons that beautifies the sky in the day and in the night.  The colors, sizes and shapes are unusually rich - taking paper lanterns and paper balloons to a totally different level of appreciation.  Watch the few videos below... but perhaps you would get a chance to watch it live this year as the town is bringing this year's Cantoya Fest online due to the pandemic - date is Jul 24!

Episode 1. Japan Summer Fireworks Festival (Hanabi Festival 花火大會)

The Japan Summer Fireworks Festival features firework shows held in many different locations throughout Japan in the summer months of July and August.  In addition to fireworks, the shows are often accompanied with food and game stalls and visitors often dress in traditional attire to immerse themselves in the festive atmosphere.  The tradition dates back over several hundred years to the Edo period (said to date back to 1733), where fireworks were launched as festivals for the dead in the Sumidagawa 隅田川 area in Tokyo.
